The Abington Surgical Center is designed for patients requiring outpatient surgery. These pages tell you about the Center and answers many of the questions you may have about outpatient surgery.
Please review these pages carefully. It is important that you, your surgeon and the Center's staff work together to make your experience at the Abington Surgical Center as pleasant as possible.
The Day Before Your Operation
- You will receive a phone call by a preop nurse from the center. Instructions for your procedure will be reviewed as well as the exact time you are to arrive for your procedure. Please be aware this may be a change from the original time you were told, due to changes in the physicians schedules. The evening before your operation, you may eat or drink anything you choose until midnight. After that, NOTHING-not even gum or hard candy-should be eaten. You will be given specific instructions about liquids at the time of your preoperative visit. Do not smoke after midnight. Patients not receiving anesthesia care may receive different instructions from their surgeon. Arrange for an adult to bring you to the Center and to bring you home . This person must be available AT ALL TIMES either by phone or in the Center.
- A parent or guardian must accompany a child (under 18 years of age) .
- Call your surgeon if you develop a sore throat , cold or fever.
- Arrange to have someone at home with you after your operation.
Failure to observe the above requirements may result in cancellation of your operation or procedure.
